Do you want to replace a wheel of car

Do you want to exchange a flat tire or winter tires for summer tires? This is how you replace a wheel.

Change wheel

TIP: Loosen the wheel nuts slightly while the car is not yet on the jack. That way you can put much more force. Put the car in gear and on the handbrake first.

  • Find a safe place to change the wheel.
  • Make sure the car cannot roll away; select a level surface, apply the handbrake and put the car in gear (or in P position for automatic transmission).
  • For your own safety, remove the spare wheel from the car before putting the car on the jack.
  • Place the jack at the jacking point closest to the wheel to be replaced (instruction booklet).
  • Loosen the wheel nuts slightly while the car is not yet jacked. This way you can put a lot more power.
  • Jack up the car so that the wheel is off the ground. Now loosen the wheel nuts completely and remove the wheel.
  • Installing the spare wheel is done in reverse order. Tighten the wheel nuts by hand. You do the crosswise fastening as soon as the car is back on four wheels.
  • Preferably use a torque wrench to tighten the wheel bolts with the correct tightening torque.
  • Do you have wheel nuts with theft protection? Make sure you always have the special accompanying key with you.

Homecoming and repair kits

Homecoming is a small and narrow spare tire that is only meant for getting home (or to the garage). Do not drive faster than 80 km / h. Repair kits have instructions for use; follow this. This aid is also only available to reach the garage. You can try auto repair shop management software free

If the wheel won't come off

If the wheel won't loosen even though all the bolts or nuts are loose - this is especially common with alloy wheels - try the following: fit some nuts or bolts and then loosen them one turn again. Lower the jack so that the weight of the vehicle rests on the wheel. Steer back and forth a few times and/or drive a little forward and then brake. Jack up the car and check if the wheel has come loose.

Fewer and fewer spare wheels

More than half of the new cars sold no longer have a spare wheel. Instead, there is an aerosol filling foam on board. The Garage Plug roadside assistance is deployed about 85,000 times a year for cars with a flat tire. But the hole is often so big that filling foam no longer works. As a result, Road Services cannot repair the tire on the spot. It is therefore advisable to also order a real spare wheel when buying a new car.

Roadside Assistance Spare wheel

To keep the delay of members with a flat tire and no spare wheel as short as possible, Road Services has been equipping their vehicles with a universal spare wheel for several years. Special about this wheel is that it can be made to fit most vehicles. For fastest work  you can buy garage accounting software

The yellow wheel of the Road Service replaces the flat tire with rim and is an emergency repair that allows members to continue with their own car in no time. In the supplied tire cover, they can return the yellow wheel to the Garage Plug for free or ask their garage to take care of it. Flat tires, along with battery and alternator problems, are one of the most common causes of breakdown.
